Support for Texas Trauma Centers is critical

Every year, nearly 130,000 Texans experience a traumatic injury. Although media attention from traumatic events fade, it's important to remember that the care it takes to save lives never ends for Level 1 trauma facilities. D Healthcare Daily features Jorie Klein, BSN, RN on why the continuation of funding for Texas trauma centers is vital.

Hit the ground running

Before you go for gold in the next marathon, put your best foot forward by choosing the right shoes. Whether you have flat feet or weak hips, Parkland physical therapist Kimberly Hemmig gives KTVT-TV (CBS) tips to help runners reach their goals and avoid painful problems over time.

Evidence shows that as little as an hour of outdoor play per day can reduce a child's risk of being nearsighted. Nearsightedness, or myopia, in Americans has increased 66 percent since the early 1970s, but Parkland ophthalmologist Preston Blomquist, MD, tells WFAA-TV (ABC) that outdoor activity significantly reduces the risk.

Fewer readmissions, better quality of life for HIV patients

Hospitalized HIV patients are among those with the highest readmission rates, meaning they are readmitted into the hospital within 30 days of discharge. Parkland doctor Ank Nijhawan, MD, tells Mundo Hispanico about the program that has led to a 40% reduction in the rate of readmissions.
