Improving outcomes by empowering patients

Parkland’s Outpatient Antibiotic Therapy (OPAT) teaches patients to self-administer IV antibiotics at home, in turn improving their well-being by empowering them to be part of their healthcare journey. PublicNow.com explained how the program is reducing hospital stays and saving the Parkland system millions of dollars as well.

Pathway to nursing excellence

The Parkland Center for Nursing Excellence launched to help recruit, retain and train nurses at Parkland, explained D CEO Healthcare. The center is a home base for nurses as they advance their own professional practice of nursing but also contributes toward Parkland’s pursuit of Magnet designation, explained Jakki Opollo, PhD, RN, Director of Professional Practice and Nursing Research.

Marketplace open enrollment ends Dec. 15

Open enrollment in the Health Insurance Marketplace ends Saturday, Dec. 15, reported KDFW-TV (Fox). Bart Ensley, Director of Patient Access at Parkland, dispelled misinformation about the program. Certified Application Counselors at Parkland can assist with enrollment or visit healthcare.gov.

Maintaining a healthy diet during feasting season

Marisa Aguillon, RD, talked about how to best manage a healthy diet during the holiday season with KTVT-TV (CBS). Her tips include paying attention to the types of food you’re eating as well as eating throughout the day rather than waiting for one big meal.
