Parkland considering three applicants for CEO

DALLAS – Following preliminary discussions with a number of individuals over the past month, Parkland’s Board of Managers today confirmed that it is currently considering three of them for the position of Chief Executive Officer. The applicants are Frederick P. Cerise, MD, Associate Clinical Professor of Medicine at Louisiana State University; David S. Lopez, FACHE, President and CEO of the Harris County Hospital District; and Marlon L. Priest, MD, Executive Vice President, Chief Medical Officer and Market Lead for Senior Services at the Bon Secours Health System.

“All three of these applicants are highly qualified professionals who are respected in their fields,” said Parkland Board Chair Debbie Branson. “We are pleased that they have expressed an interest in leading Parkland in the next exciting chapter of its history.”

The health system recently made substantial investments to improve quality of care and patient safety and it is preparing to open a new, state of the art hospital in 2015.

These applicants will now enter the formal interview process. The search will continue until the position is filled and it is possible that one or more additional applicants will be identified for the Board’s consideration.

“The Board recognizes that it must find and recruit a high-caliber leader with a successful track record,” said Branson. “At the same time, we understand that we need to complete the search as quickly as possible, and we are working diligently toward that end.”

Founded in 1894, Parkland Health & Hospital System is Dallas County’s public health care system. With a mandate to furnish medical aid and hospital care to indigent and needy persons residing in Dallas County, Parkland serves over 1 million patient visits per year. Parkland is the primary teaching hospital for The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, training over half of all doctors practicing in Dallas County. Parkland’s premiere services, such as its Burn Unit and its Trauma Unit, brought patients from 211 of Texas’s 254 counties over the past two years, making the health system a vital part of the state’s healthcare infrastructure.
